The MVMA and MSU-CVM invite veterinary professionals to attend a weekend of educational sessions and labs.

"The Power and Pitfalls of Solid Tissue Cytology" will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.  Cytologic evaluation of superficial and deep masses is a valuable approach to establishing a diagnostic or therapeutic plan. This continuing education workshop will provide an interactive and practical experience in diagnostic cytology.  The workshop will be staffed by four ACVP board-certified veterinary pathologists who are faculty members at MSU with many years of diagnostic experience.  Registration will be limited to assure a high-ratio of pathologists to participants.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

-- make cytologic presentations using a variety of techniques;

--identify practical ways to avoid common problems encountered during sample collection, smear preparation and staining;

--observe a systematic approach to microscopic interpretation of cytologic samples that is demonstrated using a videomicroscope and smears from an assortment of clinical cases;

--examine smears from a variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions using dual-headed or multiheaded microscopes;

--bring interesting slides from your own practices for discussion and input at a multiheaded microscope; and,

--take home a CD containing images of common lesions seen during the workshop.

Fee for this session: $350 for MVMA members and $425 for nonmembers.

The fee for the morning session on Sunday, "Interpretation of Thyroid Results--What Do All Those Numbers Mean?" is $150 for MVMA members and $200 for nonmembers.  The fee for the Sunday afternoon session, "Neoplastic Diseases of Cats and Dogs," is $150 for MVMA members and $200 for nonmembers.   If attending both Sunday sessions (thyroid results and neoplastic diseases), the fee is discounted to $250 for MVMA members or $350 for nonmembers.

The fee for attending all of the sessions on Saturday and Sunday is $550 for MVMA members or $675 for nonmembers.

The registration deadline is September 19, 2008
