PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This internship is designed to provide broad postgraduate training in small animal practice. The large caseload and high level of specialty support create a great learning environment for those interested in residency training or small animal practice. Interns are required to rotate through the following clerkships: Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Anesthesia, Emergency/Critical Care Medicine, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, and General Medicine (community practice). Additional elective rotations are available in specialty areas of interest, including Dermatology, Oncology, Zoo/Wildlife, Radiology, and Orthopedic Surgery. Rotations/clerkships are three weeks in length. Experience gained through clinical rotations is supplemented by a series of required Intern Seminars presented by faculty and residents, and elective participation in resident-level rounds, specialty board review sessions, and case presentations.
Duties will include:
1.)Working directly with senior faculty, residents, veterinary students and veterinary technology students in the service areas assigned. Interns will have primary patient responsibility and service duty.
2.)Participate fully in instructional opportunities and responsibilities, such as clinical teaching, rounds, and seminar discussions.
The appointment will be as an Instructor/Intern. No
formal course work is included in the program. To practice
veterinary medicine in Michigan, licensing is required.
Licensure is the responsibility of the selected
applicants. The Small Animal Clinical Sciences
department will assist in the process. Full faculty benefits,
with the exception of the retirement program, as well as professional
liability coverage are provided. Individual interviews are not
conducted. For further details contact Dr. Andrew Brown, MA,
