Student Center Policy

The purpose of the CVM Student Center is to provide dedicated space for veterinary medical and veterinary technology students to relax, visit, study or take a break from studying without having to leave the veterinary complex. Cooperation and care of the equipment and furniture is required by everyone. There are policies that each student is responsible for, so that this facility can be maintained and used for many years after you've graduated.

Key card access to the Student Center will be given to members of veterinary and veterinary technology classes. A small number of faculty and staff have key card access--in the event that we need to find a student.

Under no circumstances are animals (restrained, confined or otherwise) allowed in the CVM Student Center!

There are almost 500 students with key card access to this new space and fewer than 100 seats available. The maximum seating and space available does not allow for club or class meetings. Meetings with group sizes larger than 8 or 10 people should be reserved in rooms A-213, G-150 or E-100.

A committee consisting of faculty in the Office of Academic Programs and Student Services and one member of each veterinary medical and veterinary technology class will manage issues pertaining to policy in the Student Center. Student representatives will be members of the Student Advisory Council, as determined at the start of each fall semester, and will serve a 13-month term from October to October.

Room reservations for the small meeting rooms will be managed through an electronic system set-up by the Information Technology Center; this system should be in place by the end of September. Use of the game room, lounge area, plasma screen TV and café will be on a first-come, first-serve basis until such time that the Committee needs to identify a reservation request system.

The appearance and general cleanliness of the CVM Student Center will be the direct responsibility of every student.  Patrons of the Student Center will not leave used/discarded food or drink containers in the café, study rooms, game room or the lounge area, but will immediately dispose of refuse in waste baskets and recycling bins.  Food or beverage spilled in any location will be the immediate responsibility of the student patron.  All aspects of the ‘Food Zone’ (i.e., the sink, refrigerator, microwaves, counter, and cupboards) will be kept clean on a rotating schedule of the student clubs and classes. Unfortunately, not all the equipment is installed yet (microwaves, trash cans and recycling containers are coming!) but these items are expected soon.

Questions or concerns about use of the Student Center should be directed to class presidents; they will bring issues to the Student Advisory Council (SAC).
