Selection Process
The Committee on Student Admissions (CSA) includes both academic and nonacademic measures to recommend for selection those applicants who best fit the college’s mission and who have a high probability of being successful in the professional school curriculum.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 is required for all applicants. For applicants with a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or greater, a Scholastic Indicator Score (SIS) will be calculated based on the following scholastic criteria:
- Cumulative GPA for ALL college coursework attempted and/or completed at all accredited institutions - 27%
- GPA for science prerequisite courses completed at the time the VMCAS application is submitted - 32%
- GPA for all courses which you completed in your last three semesters at an accredited institution - 20%
- GRE scores - 21%
These percentage weights are subject to change yearly, based on review by the Committee on Student Admissions.
Applicants that have a competitive SIS score will receive an electronic request to complete a Supplemental Application and pay a $50.00 fee. The Supplemental Application and $50.00 fee will be due within five working days of the electronic request. Applicants that do not have a competitive SIS score will receive a letter of denial.
Up to 60% of the class will be selected based on exceptional SIS score and an acceptable committee file review. The remaining 40% of the class will be selected based on a competitive SIS score plus a committee file review and/or an interview.
Any applicant not submitting a complete application will be dismissed. A complete application is composed of an entire VMCAS application (application, ELORS including one from a veterinarian, payment to VMCAS), GRE scores, transcripts from all accredited institutions attended, TOEFL scores (if required), and if requested, the supplemental application and $50.00 fee.
