High School Preparation

High school students planning to attend MSU as an undergraduate freshman student should complete the college preparatory curriculum that includes, but is not limited to, 2 years algebra, ½ year in trigonometry, 1 year geometry, 1 year chemistry, 1 year biology, 1 year physics.  Prospective MSU students are also encouraged to enroll in high school honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and dual enrollment courses.

Strive to learn all you can about becoming a veterinarian by enriching the high school academic component with extracurricular activities that provide practical experience and exposure to the veterinary medical profession.  Observe, volunteer, or work in a veterinary setting to learn all you can about the roles of veterinarians and veterinary technicians and technologists. Participate in activities such as 4-H, school biology, Health Science Opportunities Association, and wildlife projects, and any other activities available to you to work/volunteer with veterinarians and to learn about animals.  In addition, read about veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, and other animal and health careers at your school and local libraries.  Youth programs like 4-H and campus visitations also contribute to your preparation and knowledge of the profession.
