The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications from motivated individuals to join our team of faculty in clinical pathology within the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation (PDI) and the MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Depending on interests and qualifications, the appointments may be in the Tenure System or the Health Programs (HP) Faculty Appointment System. The successful applicants will be expected to enhance the education, research, and service missions of the CVM and VDL.
The MSU CVM is a major referral center for companion animals as well as for livestock, laboratory, zoo, and wildlife species. It has outstanding veterinary medical professionals and facilities, and it offers an excellent environment for professional growth and advancement in clinical pathology. The VDL is one of the premier veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the United States and provides full-service laboratory support to the MSU VMC, as well as to clients nationally and internationally. The clinical pathology section offers comprehensive service in the areas of clinical biochemistry, hematology, hemostasis, urinalysis, and cytology. The laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment including a Siemens ADVIA hematology analyzer, Beckman Coulter chemistry analyzer, Nova Prime blood gas/ critical care analyzer, STA Compact coagulation analyzer, and Attune NxT flow cytometer. The MSU VDL has a large and well-established residency program in pathology that provides faculty the opportunity to participate in training the next generation of veterinary diagnostic scientists.
Opportunities abound for the candidates to become part of many exciting opportunities for collaborative and interdisciplinary research through MSU’s strong focus on comparative medicine and One Health. Additional opportunities for collaboration exist close by at the University of Michigan, the Van Andel Research Institute, and other research centers. Intramural funding for research projects is excellent, including a competitive research program in the CVM.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree as well as board certification or eligibility by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP or ECVP). Culture competence and excellent written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences, are required. The appointed individuals must have a strong commitment to providing outstanding professional diagnostic service through the clinical pathology services for the CVM Veterinary Medical Center (VMC), as well as for private veterinary general practitioners, specialty veterinary clinics, and other clients of the MSU VDL. The successful candidates will participate in preclinical or clinical instruction of DVM students and in advising, mentoring, and training graduate students and pathology residents.
For applicants interested in appointment in the Tenure System: A Ph.D. in a field aligned with veterinary pathology is required; at least one year of post-doctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an independent research program that employs contemporary investigative techniques in an area of their interests that complement current departmental and college interests in translational biomedical research and supports graduate education.
For applicants interested in appointment in the Health Programs System: Scholarly activity is expected, which may include presentations at local, regional, and national meetings, collaborative research, publications and/or active participation in laboratory test development and innovation.
