Last February, I joined the College as your new communications and alums relations specialist. Since then, I have enjoyed getting to know our wonderful alums community. From medical practice and research to industry, outreach, and beyond, our alums use their Spartan veterinary educations to better communities all over the world. I am excited to highlight some wonderful alums and students in our first issue of INSIGHTS, our re-vamped alums magazine. I look forward to sharing more of our Spartan stories in future editions of this magazine and on our blog, Vetschool Tails.
As this is the launch of INSIGHTS, it’s a great opportunity for me to introduce myself as your new communications and alums relations specialist. Before starting at the College of Veterinary Medicine, I worked as a communications coordinator for Pet Supplies Plus—and I am glad that my new position here at MSU still allows me to pet some dogs and cats (and now large animals, too!). I am a Spartan myself; I graduated from Michigan State in 2019 with a degree in professional writing from the College of Arts and Letters. I have enjoyed getting reacquainted with campus and cheering on the Spartan football team these past few months.
For my first issue as managing editor of INSIGHTS, I decided to focus the magazine on the people who make up the College’s community and the many ways that they exemplify our mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, and Protect. I also wanted to include stories from practitioners, non-practitioners, and veterinary nurses, as well as current students and alums from our graduate programs. As I assembled this magazine, I thoroughly enjoyed my glimpse into the wide range of veterinary careers and areas of study.
As I continue to learn about the College and our community, I welcome all your advice and feedback. My goal is to increase engagement between the College and our alums community through communications, such as this magazine and our Perspectives e-newsletter, as well as alums and College events. Please reach out to me with your suggestions and ideas—your insight is extremely valuable as I work to foster engagement within our alums community. I hope you enjoy the stories in this issue of INSIGHTS, and as always,
Go Green!
