Dr. Colleen Hegg has been appointed interim associate dean of research and graduate studies for the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Hegg, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and director of the College’s Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology Graduate Program, joined the College in 2006. She is a Co-Principal Investigator on two federally funded grants for training programs: “Interdisciplinary Training in Leadership and Animal Biosecurity” and “Short-Term Biomedical Research Training Program for Veterinary Students.” A neurotoxicologist, she investigates the role of certain brain receptors in the regrowth of olfactory nerve cells.
In addition to her active research and primary administrative duties, Hegg is a member of the College’s Diversity and Inclusivity Committee and the Dean’s Advisory Council. She is a co-champion of the College’s Strategic Planning Goal 2.3, which aims to strengthen the research infrastructure and resources. Hegg also acts as the College’s mentoring liaison to the MSU Graduate School.
In this position, Hegg will manage the Research and Graduate Studies Office. This includes overseeing contracts and grants, analyzing research funding opportunities, and providing research updates to the College and outside partners.
She succeeds Dr. Srinand Sreevatsan, who now serves as the dean of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Hegg assumed her role on August 1, 2024.
