November 4, 2022 – Due to a nationwide supply shortage, the MSU VDL will temporarily discontinue our Babesia canis IFA assay (60001) effective immediately.

The unavailability of this test also impacts our Tick-Borne Disease Antibody Screen (60013). Until further notice, that panel will no longer include the Babesia canis IFA assay and the price will be reduced accordingly.

As a reminder, the Babesia canis IFA detects previous exposure. For clinical cases where infection is suspected, our Babesia sp. PCR (60003) is available.

We are hopeful that supplies will become available from our vendors in the future and that we will be able to bring back the Babesia canis IFA soon. We know that our clients and the patients entrusted to their care count on us for diagnostic results.
