UPDATE, January 7, 2026:
We are happy to report that the quality control issue with our free T4 by equilibrium dialysis assay has been resolved, and we can resume testing. Samples will be processed in the order received, and clients can expect to begin receiving results this week. We anticipate testing will be completed by the week of January 26, with the possible exception of OFA Canine Thyroid Profiles which may not be completed until the following week.
We understand this delay was disruptive to our clients and the people and animals they serve. We apologize and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding. Please be assured that our team is working hard to get results to you as quickly as possible.
December 19, 2025:
The MSU VDL is committed to providing accurate and reliable results and has a robust quality system in place to identify potential problems with assays. Through routine quality control checks, we’ve identified an issue with the reagents used to measure free T4 by equilibrium dialysis. We are working with the manufacturer to find a solution. Until we can demonstrate that it meets quality control requirements, we are unable to release results for free T4 by equilibrium dialysis. This affects the following assays:
- Free T4 by Dialysis (20021)
- OFA Canine Thyroid Profile (20014)
- Premium Canine Thyroid Profile (20011)
- Premium Non-Canine Thyroid Profile (20016)
- Premium Therapeutic Monitoring (20013)
In the interim, we will release partial reports for profiles. Updated reports, that include the free T4 by equilibrium by dialysis, will be released after we ensure the assay passes quality control. Interpretations will be released upon completion of the entire profile. Samples will be stored appropriately and processed in the order they were received.
We know this disruption in our service impacts our clients and the animals entrusted to their care. We apologize for the impact on your clients and their pets. We are doing everything we can to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and will provide updates when we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
