Effective February 29, 2024, the MSU Veterinary Medical Center's Radiation Oncology Service will be on hiatus while undergoing the hiring process for a radiation oncologist.
We regret that we are unable to offer radiation oncology services at this time. The Service’s reopening will be communicated as soon as we are able to see patients again.
To obtain copies of an animal’s MSU medical records and/or have records sent to another provider, please contact the Medical Records department at medical_records@cvm.msu.edu or (517) 353-0691. Note: The Medical Records department does not handle medication requests nor medical questions; nor can they transfer or authorize prescriptions.

Radiation therapy is a localized treatment that can be used alone or as part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan.
It can be delivered with the goal of alleviating pain, controlling tumor cells that have been left behind after surgery, or addressing tumors that cannot be safely treated with surgery. We work closely with many other specialists in the Hospital, including Medical Oncology, Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery, and Internal Medicine, to ensure that each patient has a personalized treatment plan.
Radiation therapy is a localized treatment that can be used alone or as part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan. Radiation therapy is delivered using a machine called a linear accelerator. It uses high-energy x-rays, which are focused on a tumor. Computer-based treatment plans, made with the help of a CT scan, also can be made for some patients. These methods allow the Radiation Oncology team to deliver treatments with precision, minimization of side effects, and improvement of tumor control.
