K9 Emergency Care and Transport
24/7 access to critical care. When and where they need it.
About The Program
Care and transport is available 24/7 for canines that are in an on-duty capacity working for military, law enforcement or other public safety organizations, who require immediate lifesaving medical attention.
Care is provided by Corewell Health Aero Med and North Flight Aero Med flight teams in partnership with Michigan State University’s Veterinary Medical Center. Air transport provides direct access to advanced critical care, surgical care or additional specialty services available at the MSU Veterinary Medical Center.
Flight teams are trained for:
- Trauma/bleeding
- Heat illness
- Airway obstructions
- Cardiac arrest
- Burns
- Opioid O.D./ poisoning
- Gastric dilation and volvulus
Specialized equipment for K9s:
- Advanced airways
- Muzzles
- Oxygen masks
- Bleeding control
- Intravenous fluids
- Medications
