Dr. Ting-Yu Cheng is a veterinarian, diagnostician, and epidemiologist interested in strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the global food animal industry against diseases from the perspective of efficient diagnosis, early detection, and transmission-blocking. He received his DVM and MS degrees from the National Chiayi University, Taiwan. Thereafter, he joined Iowa State University and earned his PhD degree in veterinary microbiology with a minor in Statistics in 2021, followed by a 3.5-year postdoctoral fellowship in veterinary preventive medicine at the Ohio State University.

Dr. Cheng has over 10 years of research experience in swine medicine, veterinary diagnostic, veterinary epidemiology, and data analysis. He has combined social science, traditional epidemiology, and molecular diagnostic techniques to seek food animal disease prevention and control strategies under various contexts. One of his current research projects is on establishing a live swine movement network for developing animal disease control programs, which was supported by the 2022 USDA National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program. In combination with his teaching experience in swine production and fundamental data analysis, Dr. Cheng seeks to build vibrant research and mentorship programs addressing challenges in food animal health using epidemiological and statistical approaches.
