When Michigan State University built its veterinary teaching hospital in the 1960s, it launched a bold new model—one that changed how veterinary medicine was taught and practiced. Learning moved into the clinic. Teams of specialists worked side by side. Innovation became part of daily care.

That vision still defines our work today.

Happy Nurses

Every day, our clinicians, students, and researchers deliver care that sets the standard for excellence. We train veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and scientists. We treat complex cases referred from across the region. We collaborate across disciplines to advance animal and human health through research. And we do it all in a space that, despite its age, continues to support high-level, high-impact work.

But to stay ahead, we must build what comes next.

Veterinary medicine is evolving quickly. So are the expectations of our clients, the needs of our profession, and the technologies shaping both human and animal care. Our hospital has brought us this far—but it wasn’t built to accommodate the pace, complexity, and integration that modern medicine demands.

This project is about building on our legacy to create a facility ready for the next generation of veterinary education, care, and discovery.

The new hospital will provide:

  • Flexible clinical space that supports collaboration, innovation, and growth
  • Expanded capacity for both small and large animal specialty services
  • Modern learning environments that mirror today’s clinical realities
  • Infrastructure for innovation, including future-ready tools like robotic-assisted surgery, AI-supported imaging, and immersive training
  • Stronger connections to One Health, enabling deeper collaboration across animal, human, and environmental health

The students who will train here will practice into the 2080s. Many of the tools and treatments they’ll use haven’t yet been developed—but the foundation starts now.

With your support, we can build a hospital that honors our legacy, meets the demands of today, and positions MSU to lead veterinary medicine into the future.

Because with uncommon will, Spartans can shape a far better world—for animals, for people.

Goal: $150 million
