Dr. Virginia Melly is an Assistant Professor of Large Animal Surgery. She earned her veterinary degree (MVB) from University College Dublin in 2019 and subsequently completed a rotating internship at B.W. Furlong and Associates in New Jersey. She then pursued further specialty training through a Sports Medicine and Surgery Fellowship at Atlantic Equine Services and an additional internship at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, before completing a residency in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania from 2022–2025. Her clinical interests include equine orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, the diagnosis and management of impinging dorsal spinous processes (“kissing spines”), wound healing, and the application of advanced imaging techniques, including three-dimensional imaging.
