Dr. Olivier received his veterinary medical degree from Louisiana State University. He started his MSU faculty career as an instructor/clinical intern in 1981 and became a diplomate of the ACVIM (Cardiology) in 1985. He completed two clinical residencies here, then graduate studies in the MSU Department of Physiology. He is currently a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine, where he serves as a veterinary clinical cardiologist and physiologist. He also served as chairperson of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences from 2016 to 2021 and interim co-director of the Veterinary Medical Center from 2020 to 2021.
