András Komáromy, DrMedVet, PhD, professor of comparative ophthalmology in Small Animal Clinical Sciences, has been named a Gold Fellow with the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). The title of ARVO Fellow is an honor established to recognize current ARVO members for their individual accomplishments and leadership. Fellows serve as role models and mentors for individuals pursuing careers in vision and ophthalmology research and help further ARVO's vision “to advance research worldwide into understanding the visual system.”

Komáromy joined the College as an associate professor in January 2012. His laboratory works to determine the molecular causes of inherited retinal diseases in dogs and develop treatment approaches to ameliorate sight degeneration. Recently, he was granted a 2024 Senior Scholars Fulbright award to conduct glaucoma research in collaboration with glaucoma clinician-scientist Dr. Stuart Graham and glaucoma researcher Dr. Vivek Gupta at the Macquarie Medical School in Sydney, Australia.

“ARVO is the world's largest eye and vision research organization,” says Komáromy. “It is a great honor to be named a Gold Fellow in recognition of my service to this wonderful organization, which has a mission to prevent, treat, and cure blinding disorders worldwide.”

Komáromy will be recognized as a Gold Fellow at the ARVO 2025 opening keynote in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 4, 2025.
