Dr. András M. Komáromy, professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, has been appointed as a standing panel member of the Imaging and Bioengineering Technology for Visual Systems Study Section (IBV) within the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The term lasts until 2029.
This appointment recognizes Komáromy’s scientific achievements and leadership in the field of veterinary ophthalmology and vision research. Study section members play a critical role in the NIH peer review process, evaluating grant applications and advising on the direction of biomedical research.
As a clinician-scientist, Komáromy is particularly interested in studying glaucoma and its disease mechanisms and developing novel, more effective therapies. Several new treatments developed and tested by him and his collaborators have been translated into clinical trials.
The NIH highlights that membership on a study section is a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort, requiring scientific excellence and a collaborative spirit.
“It is a great honor to be appointed as a standing panel member of an NIH study section after having served as an ad hoc member over several years,” says Komáromy. “This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the mission of NIH’s National Eye Institute, the elimination of vision loss, and improve the quality of life through vision research.”
