Merck Animal Health, in partnership with the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) Foundation, announced Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine student, Miranda Carrisosa, was among five Next Generation Poultry Veterinarians Scholarship recipients. The awards were announced at the AAAP Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, July 29-31, 2025.
The scholarships are a sum of $10,000 each and are awarded to veterinary students in their second or third year who have an interest in poultry medicine.
Carrisosa, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) student in the class of 2027, holds a graduate degree in poultry science, conducted research on coccidiosis (a parasitic disease that affects chickens), and worked with chickens as part of a veterinary internship. She intends to become a poultry production veterinarian after graduating.
“I am truly grateful for Merck Animal Health and AAAP for their support as I pursue a career in poultry medicine. Scholarships like this make such a difference when the cost of veterinary education is so high. Receiving this award reaffirms that I am on the right path and reflects the hard work I have put in towards my career,” Carrisosa says.
She also spoke of the community that exists in poultry medicine, saying, "Within this profession, I am lucky to have found great mentorship and lifelong friends. It’s an honor to be acknowledged alongside four amazing future colleagues who I call friends.”
