Dr. Chris Baines graduated with a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Bath, Great Britain and did his subsequent PhD work in cardiac physiology at the University of South Alabama. He then did postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Rochester, University of Louisville, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. It was during this training that Dr. Baines developed and pursued an interest in the role of mitochondria in cell death and cardiac pathology. He continued these research paths in his own lab as faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri for 17 years. However, it was during this time that he fell in love with teaching, directing and teaching the Veterinary Cell Biology course as well as the renal section of Veterinary Physiology. Now at MSU he will primarily focus on teaching physiology in the pre-clinical curriculum while still doing some collaborative research.
