Dr. Hume earned her DVM from Auburn University in 2003. She completed two internships at the University of Georgia, followed by a medical oncology residency at North Carolina State University. She received board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (specialty of oncology) in 2008. Her next training experience was as one of the first clinical fellows at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she then served as a faculty member until joining Michigan State. She is a member of the Veterinary Cancer Society.

Her current research dives deep into many aspects of molecular oncology and cancer genetics, and she is interested in bridging gaps between clinical practice and benchtop science.
