The clinical phase of the DVM curriculum is divided into three-week long rotation blocks with each student having the opportunity to enroll in up to 19 clerkships prior to graduation.
Each student must complete the 9 college-required clerkships and between 7 and 10 elective clerkships of their choosing. Of their elective clerkships, students may take up to 6 off-campus electives allowing them to travel to various practices and/or teaching hospitals to gain additional training in their area(s) of interest. Students are given the opportunity to rank electives available to them when creating their schedules, giving them the opportunity to tailor their clinical experience to areas in which they are interested or intend to practice upon graduation. Students also have the opportunity to take up to three rotation blocks as vacations during their clinical phase.
Below is a list of the College’s required clerkships, as well as a list of elective clerkships that showcases the variety of experiences veterinary students have available to them during the clinical phase of the DVM curriculum.
