The Oncology Service at MSU VMC approaches the treatment of all patients with a positive mindset and a clear goal.

“To give patients more quality time with their pet,” says Danielle Woodbury, LVT. She has worked at the VMC for 16 years, the last 10 of which have been with Oncology.

“It’s always a new experience,” says Woodbury. “I love it.”

The Oncology Service offers consultation and treatment for patients suffering from cancer, and even a few other special cases, such as dogs with platelet issues or animals with special inflammatory neurological cases—both of which may benefit from chemotherapy.

The Oncology Service offers two types of chemotherapy—traditional treatment held onsite and, where appropriate, oral treatment for at-home comfort.

“To give patients more quality time with their pet...

She was just grateful for every extra day.”

Radiation treatment is also offered at the VMC with our linear accelerator, which is up and running with its first patient scheduled in August. The accelerator and radiation treatments offer a “spot treatment” alternative for curative or palliative purposes.

The Oncology Service also works closely with the Soft Tissue Surgery Service to treat cancer, most commonly lymphoma.

This array of treatment options enables the Oncology Service to help pets keep their cancer in remission for as long as possible.

Woodbury remembers how important the Oncology Service was for one of her first patients.

“She was just grateful for every extra day,” says Woodbury.
