On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the College hosted its premier Veterinary Education Day (VetEd).
The successful event was held for high school students and college undergraduates and graduates interested in the veterinary profession.
VetEd was planned by College faculty and staff who wanted to find a way to educate those interested in veterinary medicine about their educational and career opportunities. VetEd offered presentations for those eager to learn more about the specific educational programs available at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Faculty, staff, and current students led the day-long event at the College, and shared their insight, expertise, and experiences.
In addition, the panels of speakers told attendees how they can best prepare for success in applying to the Veterinary Technology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programs, and how the Pre-veterinary Program can help prepare students for their DVM applications. There was a staff panel, a panel of current veterinary medical students, and a panel of current veterinary technology students. The students were available to answer any of the attendees’ questions throughout the day.
The event also featured a keynote speaker, Dr. Helene Pazak, associate dean for Academic Programs-Clinical Education and director of Accreditation at the College. Pazak shared her career journey as a veterinarian and spoke about the importance of the relationship between veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians.
The day ended with an opportunity for attendees to ask current veterinary medical students about their experiences at the College.
