On March 29, Dr. John Kaneene, University Distinguished Professor for the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, received the 2018 Ralph Smuckler Award for Advancing International Studies and Programs at MSU at the International Awards Ceremony. Hosted each spring by MSU International Studies and Programs, the ceremony brings together MSU faculty, staff, students, community volunteers, and the Michigan community to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions toward international engagement and understanding.

The Ralph H. Smuckler Award for Advancing International Studies and Programs at MSU recognizes senior faculty members for their significant and lasting impact on the advancement of international scholarship, teaching, and public service at MSU.

Kaneene was honored for his continuous external funding from numerous sources, such as the National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service and Borlaug Fellowships, the Mastercard Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Carnegie Fellowship Foundation, totaling in more than $17 million in support.
