Dr. William Atchison has been named as the 2019 Distinguished Neurotoxicologist Awardee by the Neurotoxicology Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology. This award, which is presented to Society members who have made impactful contributions to the neurotoxicology field, is not presented at regular intervals; rather, the award is made as these important scientific-, regulatory-, or service-based contributions are identified.
Atchison, PhD, MS, is a professor at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Atchison began his work at MSU in 1982, and served as the associated dean of Research and Graduate Studies. In 2014, he received the Society of Toxicology Undergraduate Educator Award. His current research works toward understanding the basis of cellular neurotoxicity, particularly at synapses.
