Agriculture is the farming of animals and crops to provide food and fiber products, and National Agriculture Day is March 15. It celebrates all the contributions agriculture makes in our daily lives. National Agriculture Day was started by the Agriculture Council of America (ACA) in 1973. According to the Ag Day website, the ACA wants Americans to:
- Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
- Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant, and affordable products.
- Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
- Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food, and fiber industry.
The MSU Colleges of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) Department of Animal Science work together closely to support agriculture on the MSU campus. CANR oversees the animal farms on campus for cattle, horses, poultry, sheep, and swine.
These farms produce products like:
- Beef
- Milk
- Eggs
- Pork
- Fertilizer
- Lamb and mutton
- Wool
- Research animals
- Public visits and tours with animals
