David Emery, DVM. Dave is an assistant professor (HP) of primary care medicine with the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences since August 9, 2021. Dr. Emery is building the community Medicine program at MSU, in addition to moderating 2 preclinical courses in communication and helping teach the Junior surgery course. Dr. Emery serves as faculty advisor to the Shelter medicine club, HSVMA, and street medicine RSO, and is faculty advisor to the class of 2027. Dr. Emery earned his Bachelor of Science at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worchester, MA, where he majored in biochemistry. He then went on to earn his DVM from MSU in 2010. Prior to attending veterinary school, Dave volunteered for the Peace Corps in Zambia, Africa. During his time there, he organized and conducted AIDS and sanitation lectures, supported the community with water sanitation by building wells, and guided Zambians on the importance of inoculations. As a veterinary student here at MSU, Dave worked as a student assistant with the ERCC (formerly NCU/CCU) and served as student representative on the college advisory council and served as class president. Dr. Emery has more than 14 years of experience as a veterinarian ranging from corporate veterinary hospitals, private practice, and with the Michigan Human Society. Dave's most recent role was as the Facility Medical Director for the Rochester Hills Michigan Humane Society shelter and clinic. Dave has a strong passion for teaching and mentoring of veterinary students and residents in addition to a desire to assist and support underserved communities.
