In addition to moderating preclinical courses and teaching surgery, Dr. Emery is building the College's community medicine outreach program. He is the faculty advisor to the Shelter Medicine Club, the street medicine student organization, the student chapter of the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, and the DVM Class of 2027.

Dr. Emery earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worchester, Mass., where he majored in biochemistry. He then went on to earn his DVM from Michigan State University in 2010. Prior to attending veterinary school, he volunteered for the Peace Corps in Zambia. During his time there, he organized and conducted AIDS and sanitation lectures, supported the community with water sanitation by building wells, and guided Zambians on the importance of inoculations.

As a veterinary student, Dr. Emery worked as a student assistant with the ERCC (formerly NCU/CCU). He also served as student representative on the College Advisory Council and as class president.

Dr. Emery has more than 14 years of experience as a veterinarian, ranging from corporate veterinary hospitals and private practice, to serving with the Michigan Human Society. Before assuming a faculty position, he was the supervising veterinarian for the Rochester Hills Michigan Humane Society shelter and veterinary clinic. He has a strong passion for teaching and mentoring of veterinary students and residents in addition to a desire to assist and support underserved communities.
