Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation are proud to announce the selection of Resident and Graduate Student Charlotte Hollinger by the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP) for the 2011 Young Investigator Award.

The award recognizes outstanding oral presentations on original work given by residents or graduate students in the field of veterinary clinical pathology. Two candidates are recognized each year, one for applied or translational research and one for basic research.

Hollinger, resident and graduate student in the MSU-CVM Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation (PDI) received the ASVCP clinical research award for her work on hematologic abnormalities predicative of myelofibrosis in dogs. Early suspicion of collagen myelofibrosis may hasten acquisition of confirmatory bone marrow core biopsies and improve patient management.

The award was announced at the ASVCP annual meeting in Nashville December 2-7.
