East Lansing, MI — Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU CVM)and the Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology (CMIB) program are proud to announce the selection of Graduate Student Alice Stack, DVM, DipACVIM by the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation for the Storm Cat Career Development Award.
This award recognizes a young individual who show promise toward a career in equine research. The Storm Cat is awarded annually, and Stack is the sole recipient for 2012. The award is named for the stallion Strom Cat and is underwritten by the family that owned Storm Cat.
Stack is researching exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage with Dr. Fred Derksen, Large Animal Clinical Sciences and Chairperson of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, and Dr. Ed Robinson, Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Department of Physiology.
Stack received her MVB from the University College Dublin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She then completed an internship at a racing practice in Dubai before arriving at MSU CVM for a large animal internal medicine residency, which she completed in 2010. She is board certified by the ACVIM. Currently Stack is a graduate student in the CMIB PhD program at MSU.
In addition to the Storm Cat award, the MSU CVM also was awarded a grant from the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. MSU was one of seven institutions selected to receive funding for 2012. Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation is traditionally the nation’s leading source of private funding for equine medical research, and the new slate of projects brings the foundation’s total since 1983 to 287 projects funded for $19 million at 40 universities.
