Eleven students from the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine were selected as recipients of the 2017 Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship. The scholarship is a partnership between Zoetis and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges. It operates as a platform to support leadership and diversity among future veterinarians, while also helping to offset the significant costs associated with a veterinary education. In the eight years of the program, Zoetis has donated nearly $6 million toward scholarships.

“The Zoetis scholarship recognizes academic excellence and provides financial support to students pursuing careers in veterinary medicine,” said Dr. Julie Funk, associate dean for Academic Programs and Student Success. “This is an incredible achievement for our students, and we are proud that their accomplishments are being recognized.”

This year, more than 1,700 second-and third-year students from colleges across the United States and in the Caribbean were evaluated based on criteria including academic excellence, financial need, diversity, leadership, and career path. Scholarships were awarded to students in all areas of professional interest, including food animal medicine, small animal clinical medicine, research, government services, public health, and organized veterinary medicine.

The scholarships were awarded at the 2017 Student American Veterinary Medical Association Symposium. In total, more than $630,000 was awarded to 315 students.
