Dr. Colleen Hegg has been appointed interim associate dean of research and graduate studies for the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, effective August 1, 2024.
“Dr. Hegg is known for her outstanding accomplishments as a scientist, educator, and administrator—all of which make her an excellent fit for this role,” says Douglas Freeman, interim dean for the College. “We are thrilled she has agreed to lead the College’s research mission as interim associate dean, where she plans to actively promote and enable the research activities of the College.”
Dr. Hegg joined the College in 2006 and currently is associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and director of the College’s Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology Graduate Program.
In addition to her active research and primary administrative duties, Dr. Hegg is a member of the College’s Diversity and Inclusivity Committee and the Dean’s Advisory Council. She is co-champion of our Strategic Planning Goal 2.3, which aims to strengthen the research infrastructure and resources and is the College’s mentoring liaison to the MSU Graduate School. She is a member of the College Advisory Committee.
Dr. Hegg is currently Co-PI on two federally funded grants for training programs: “Interdisciplinary Training in Leadership and Animal Biosecurity” and “Short-Term Biomedical Research Training Program for Veterinary Students.” A neurotoxicologist, she investigates the role of purinergic receptors in the regrowth of olfactory receptor neurons.
She succeeds Dr. Srinand Sreevatsan, whose term ends July 31. The College will hold a national search for associate dean of research and graduate studies.
