Stephanie Valberg, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (LAIM), DACVSMR has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award for large animal internal medicine (LAIM) by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Valberg joined the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine as the Mary Anne McPhail Dressage Chair in Equine Sports Medicine in 2015, and retired in 2022.
Described by colleagues a “guiding light,” Valberg is an expert in equine neuromuscular physiology and disease. While heading the McPhail Equine Neuromuscular Research Laboratory, Valberg and her team furthered the understanding of neuromuscular pathophysiology using new investigative techniques, with a commitment to bringing discoveries to horses on the clinic floor. In a career spanning 30 years, she published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and 32 book chapters, as well as holding multiple patents and mentoring countless veterinary professionals.
