Associate Dean Recognized for Fostering Acceptance and Inclusivity

Dr. Mike Chaddock, associate dean for Administration, has been awarded the 2017 LGBTQ+ Veterinary Awareness Award from the Broad Spectrum Veterinary Student Association. The award is given to individuals who go above and beyond to provide support and ensure inclusivity, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, in veterinary academia. Chaddock was one of six individuals in the country to receive the award.

College faculty, staff, and students joined together to test hundreds of dogs for lead toxicity in Flint, Michigan. The College sought to detect if pets were exposed to lead. Education was an important part of the work, and the College generated and distributed fliers for health care providers and pet owners about detecting and combating lead poisoning. Drs. Daniel Langlois and John Buchweitz, who spearheaded the lead-screening study, were recognized with an MSU Service Learning and Engagement award.
