Dr. Daniel Grooms, Department Chair and Professor of Large Animal Clinical Sciences

The American Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Daniel Grooms, Department Chair and Professor, Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at MSU, as liaison to the National Coalition for Food and Agriculture Research (NC-FAR).

NC-FAR holds seminars on Capitol Hill to educate legislators on agricultural research issues. They also get university faculty involved in Farm Bill implementation, as well as the national research budget and appropriations process, provide expert testimony, among other efforts. Dr. Grooms’ appointment could help enhance the profile of veterinary science in general, and at MSU in particular.

Working in the Field: Faculty from the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine, MSU Extension educators, and local veterinary practitioners partner every year to conduct Bull Breeding Soundness Examinations (BSE) at sites across Michigan.

“My job as a liaison between NC-Far and the AVMA will be to facilitate bidirectional communications with the goal of enhancing both of our missions,” Dr. Grooms says. “I’ll help identify individuals who will advocate for agricultural research.” This appointment follows Dr. Grooms’ AVMA Council appointment November 2016.
