This year, 11 MSU College of Veterinary Medicine students were awarded the 2018 Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship were announced during the 2018 SAVMA Symposium at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine on March 15—March 17, 2018. Students were awarded scholarships based on academic excellence, financial need, diversity, sustainability, leadership, and career interests.

Since 2010, when the Zoetis Veterinary Medical Student Scholarship Program launched, $6 million in scholarships have been awarded to second- and third-year veterinary medical students in the United States and Caribbean. Through their partnership with the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), Zoetis Inc. has awarded scholarships to more than 2,700 veterinary medical students.

“Zoetis and the AAVMC have been dedicated to addressing the veterinary medical student debt crisis by offering scholarships,” says Anna Gates, DVM class of 2020. “I am grateful to be one of the recipients.”

More than 1,700 veterinary medical students applied for the 2018 Veterinary Medical Student Scholarship. Of those applicants, 315 students were awarded scholarships, resulting in a total of $630,000 in scholarships.

“Being awarded the Zoetis Veterinary Medical Student Scholarship will help me tremendously,” says Lauren Fenton, DVM class of 2020. “I would like to give many thanks to those who made this scholarship possible, as it will better my wellbeing and education.”

The Zoetis Veterinary Medical Student Scholarship aims to support leadership and diversity among future veterinarians, while also helping to offset the significant costs associated with a veterinary medical education.

“No words can explain the excitement I had when I saw the board of Zoetis Veterinary Medical Student Scholarship winners at the SAVMA Symposium,” says Colleen Curtiss, DVM class of 2020. “I am beyond thankful for everyone who made this scholarship possible.”
