This year, the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s Food Systems Fellowship Program (FSF) will award four scholarships to students Katie Kesler, Meggan Freeland, Kellie Rizzolo, and Jackie Maeroff. The scholarships—three of which are funded by Merck Foundation—are each worth $5,000.
“The Food Systems Fellowship Program provides a value-added experience to our students that helps them successfully serve the food animal industry and ensure an abundant, safe, and wholesome food supply,” says Dr. Dan Grooms, chair for the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. “These scholarships further help students be successful by supporting their cost of education.”
FSF is a unique national collaboration between the College and industry partners who are interested in ensuring the supply of well-trained veterinarians to work in the food animal industry. Established by the College in 2006, FSF includes public policy, animal health, public health, agribusiness, pharmaceutical medicine, and regulatory veterinary medicine.
Program partners for 2018 include Merck Animal Health, Antel Bio, Zoetis, Michigan Milk Producers Association, Pharmacosmos, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, MSU Beef Center, and the MSU Training Center for Dairy Professionals.
