The Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Center is dedicated to improving animal health through clinical excellence, groundbreaking research, and teaching. The Hospital’s team is made up of dedicated and passionate veterinary professionals—board-certified clinicians, residents, interns, veterinary nurses (licensed veterinary technicians), and senior veterinary medicine and nursing students.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University’s veterinary healthcare team continued to operate, though under revised operations, guided more than ever by its mission: to heal. To that end, the hospital treated more that 29,000 cases. 12,711 of those were new emergency patients, an increase from the year prior. When the pandemic peaked from March through July, the Hospital saw 13,910 patients.
Situations like this can either make or break you; for the most part, this is making us and not breaking us. Overall, the most important part that our team has remained focused on is the care of our patients,” says Associate Professor Dr. Marc Kinsley, section chief of Large Animal Surgery.
