The Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation invites you to a seminar presentation by Dr. Ivana Giovanna Zupičić, DVM PhD, Research Associate; Croatian Veterinary Institute, Zagreb, Croatia: "A National Framework for Veterinary Diagnostics and Disease Control in Croatia: Insights from the Croatian Veterinary Institute.”
More information:
The Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI) is Croatia’s central institution for veterinary diagnostics, research, and disease surveillance. With a network of ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories and a strong commitment to One Health principles, CVI plays a vital role in protecting animals and public health, as well as ensuring food safety.
This presentation will provide an overview of CVI’s organizational structure and its mandate as the National Reference Laboratory for multiple notifiable diseases. Key aspects include its diagnostic workflows, quality assurance practices, and participation in national and EU-wide disease monitoring and control programs.
Special attention is given to the Laboratory for Aquatic Animal Diseases, which conducts advanced research on fish, mollusk, and crustacean pathogens. The lab is actively involved in several EU-funded initiatives - such as COST Actions, Horizon Europe, and Interreg - focused on sustainable aquaculture and innovative pathogen detection, including in the development of biosensing technologies. These efforts reinforce CVI’s strategic role in supporting both scientific progress and the resilience of the aquaculture sector.
