John Kruger has been named acting chairperson of the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. Professor and associate chairperson of the department, Kruger’s appointment is effective May 1, 2015.
“Dr. Kruger is an experienced academic leader, research scientist, and mentor,” said John Baker, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. “He will play an important role within the department and in building relationships across the college. His long tenure in the department demonstrates his commitment to the college, and we look forward to having him take on this role.”
An active clinical researcher and engaged mentor, Kruger has directed the MSU Center for Feline Health and Well-Being since 1998. From 1999 to 2012 he served as the assistant department chair of research and graduate studies. In 2012 he became the associate chair of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. He is the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Faculty Award from the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and the 2009 Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence.
Kruger, who joined MSU in 1989, received his DVM and PhD from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on disorders of the canine and feline urinary system. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Kruger succeeds William Horne, who has served as chairperson of the department since 2012.
